Eviction drive continues, more structures demolished
ITANAGAR, Oct 07: Continuing its drive to widen the capital road, the Capital Complex
administration today carried out eviction drive along NH 52(A) at Itanagar town.

The other permanent structures falling under 15 mtr of RoW of NH 52A have been given seven days time to remove their structure and belongings on their own, otherwise the same would be done by the District Administration, the DC informed in a release. The notice to this effect has been given to all the illegal occupants and the public announcement through PA system was also done today in this regard.
The drive is in continuation to the eviction drive conducted by the District Administration on 29th September last at Naharlagun wherein more than 100 structures and hoardings were removed.
The effort of the District Administration is to free the RoW of atleast 15 mtrs of NH 52A on both sides, so that the pedestrian and the moving traffic can commute freely without congestion and risk of accidents. It would also help in giving better aesthetic beauty to the Capital City. The District Administration has appealed to all including residents, affected parties, media fraternity and others to help in their endeavour to make capital city beautiful and congestion free. The first phase of eviction drive was widely welcomed by various NGOs and civil societies of capital.
The DC capital Sanjay Goel and his dedicated team of officers is on a crusade to make capital complex an ideal city to live. The time has arrived for law abiding citizens of capital to come out and extend support to such endeavour.
Expedition team reaches base camp
Bomdila, Oct 07: The 12-
The team reached the base camp located at an altitude of 16500 ft as per schedule via Jang, Dushinthang, Mago, Jithang and Merathang with the help of Mules and Yaks, stated a report from the Base camp.
“All team members are physically fit and sound and the team is expected to attempt the summit on October 8 and 11 by rope as the weather favored the team since it was flagged off by Governor Gen JJ Singh at Itanagar on September 22 last,” the statement said.
However, the team has gone out of contact with rest of the world due to disruption in communication system due to failure of generator set; and as a result of which K N Damo, Field Advisor cum LO of the team with Police WT operator Tasso Tayung had to rush back to Mago from Base Camp for arrangement of support team in the event of any emergency. Mountains in Arunachal Himalayas are considered pious; hence, the team members offered puja to the respective deities at Chillipam Gompa, Thubchog Gatseling Gompa and finally Tawang Monastary on September 25 before the start of the trekking at Jang.
Arunachal Mountaineering and Adventure Sports Association (AMASA) organized the final get together programme at Bomdila Bazar Gompa which was attended by West Kameng DC Rinchin Tashi, former Minister D K Thongdok, Sports and Youth Affairs Director D K Dinglow and AMASA president Tsering Wange.

This is the first civilian expedition to Mt. Gorichen organized by the Dept of Sports & Youths Affairs Govt of Arunachal Pradesh in collaboration with Indian Mountaineering Foundation. If successful, it will be a curtain raiser for high altitude trekking and mountain expeditions to Arunachal Himalayas.
Governor appeals to preserve and promote folk dances
ITANAGAR, Oct 07: Governor of Arunachal Pradesh General (Retd) J.J. Singh appealed all to preserve and promote traditional folk dances and disseminate its values. The Governor was speaking at the National Folk Dance Festival here this evening.
Exhorting all to revive and preserve folk music, folk dances and folk dramas of different tribes of the country, the Governor appealed to the parents to teach their wards indigenous dialects, customs and traditions thus maintaining a linkage between the past, present and future. He lauded the efforts of various indigenous organizations, who are working for preservation of indigenous faiths and cultural heritage.
Stating that Arunachal Pradesh is not only rich in biodiversity but also rich in ethnic and cultural diversity, the Governor said that it is a mini India and truly a mesmerizing cultural mosaic. If combined with tourism, it will be a sustainable venture to boost rural economy.
The Governor lauded North East Zone Cultural Center, Dimapur and State Department of Art and Culture for organizing the National Folk Dance Festival and expressed his confidence that the festival will showcase the richness, diversity and magnificence of Indian art and culture. He said that folk dance and cultural festivals have always played a crucial role in creating awareness and consciousness amongst the people about cultural heritage, traditions and practices in other parts of the country. It also instills the proud spirit of ‘Unity in Diversity’ in every Indian, Singh added.
Taking the opportunity, the Governor exhorted the media to participate enthusiastically in promoting national unity. He said that media can play important role in depicting the culture, tradition and practices of the north east region and help the people from other parts of the country to know and understand their fellow citizens. He stated that India is diverse but united.
The Governor while felicitating the people associated with NEZCC, Dimapur on the occasion of its silver jubilee celebration, reposed his faith that the center will continue to promote the timeless and treasured cultural legacy of the region and also provide a platform for artists to exhibit their talents.

ITANAGAR, Oct 07: Despite paucity of fund, the state Govt has given top priority on development of education sector in Arunachal Pradesh, said Education Minister Bosiram Siram today. He was addressing the faculties, staff and students of Rajiv Gandhi Govt Polytechnic (RGGP) here after the inauguration of civil engineering department building of the Polytechnic in an impressive function.

While lauding the academic activities of the Polytechnic since its establishment in 2002, Siram urged the authorities of the institution to give emphasis on vocation course and personality development of the students.
Admitting that encroachment of land within the educational institutions causes concern, the Minister also urged the Polytechnic authorities to approach the general administration so that even an inch of land of the institution is not encroached.
In his address, director of higher and technical education Dr Joram Begi said the RGGP, being the only Govt polytechnic in the state should be a role model. He added 10 more polytechnics are being established in Arunachal under the initiative of Central Govt.
Lauding the academic growth of the polytechnic within a short span of 10 years, Begi said “we are trying our best to ensure proper growth of this technical institution.” The Director, however, urged both faculty members and students to strive hard for academic excellence of the institution.
Steps are being taken for creation of regular posts under the civil engineering department of the institution within this financial year, Begi said while adding that remuneration of guest faculties of the institution has been increased from Rs 8000 to Rs 15,000.
It is worth mentioning here that Civil Engineering department of the institution is running without regular faculties for last 4 years.
Education Commissioner Gonesh Koyu said the Govt is always ready to extend any kind of help for academic growth of the instution.
Earlier, RGGP principal A K Tripathy briefed on the achievements of the Polytechnic and its future plans. He said during last two years, the RGGP gets its civil engineering department building and other infrastructure like staff quarters, girls’ hostel with security barrack. It has received 11 projects funded by AICTE, which is highest in the country. 6 students received gold medals for academic excellence, while the principal and faculties of the technical institute also received international and national awards during last two years. Recently, it has signed pact with Tata Consultancy services in career counseling and bagged 11 consultancy and entrepreneurship projects.
PWD Executive Engineer Roto Techi and HoD EEE Anil Choudhary also spoke on the occasion.
The construction of the building to house the civil engineering department started in January 2011 with an estimated cost of Rs one crore. Speakers also lauded the team of PWD engineers – Roto Techi, EE, Nabam Takar, AE and Toko Lento, JE for completion of project within July this year.
Arunachal Bhavan Shillong in shambles
Arunachal Bhavan, situated in Cleave Colony, Shillong was acquired by Lt. Governor K. A. A Raja through exercise of his constitutional authority for his immense love for the state of Arunachal Pradesh. The historic building was known as Brown House during British days.
Many Arunachalees would admit that the Bhavan in question is testimony to many accomplishments that Arunachal can boast of today. Arunachal Bhavan in Shillong was a place of great interest for our state leaders till late 90s; but gradually the route of interest shifted to Guwahati and New Delhi. The shift of interest almost brought the heritage building to a total shambles as maintenance works disappeared since then. The affairs of the Bhavan and adjoining circuit house in Shillong are looked after by Naharlagun Division of PWD.
Over the years the health of the Bhavan had deteriorated to such an extent that almost
the entire set of walls, furniture, doors and other things need immediate replacements.

Pema visits crash site of late CM, pays tribute
Tawang, Oct 07: Tourism Minister Pema Khandu visited Luguthang, the place where his father and former minister Dorjee Khandu along with four others died in a chopper crash, and paid rich homage to all the departed souls on October 5 last.
Former Chief Minister Khandu, Yeshi Lhamu, Yeshi Chodak along with the two pilots died in a chopper crash near Luguthang village on April 30, 2011.
Pema lighted butter lamps and erected a memorial structure at the spot where the body of his father was found and offered prayers for the eternal peace of the departed souls. Pema, as obvious, was seen sombre and overtaken by emotion at the site.
At Luguthang village, Pema, on behalf of his entire family members as well as people
of the State expressed deep gratitude to the villagers for the pains they had taken
during search operation and also during retrieval of the body of the Late CM and
others by enduring the rough weather in a dreadfully inhospitable terrain. On the
request of the villagers for drinking water facility, he assured for construction
of channel to the village from the nearest water source and asked the villagers to

Luguthang is a tiny village with 10 households perched on slope of rocky mountain at an altitude of over 13,000 ft. The extremely humble folk of the village are graziers as the altitude of the village does not permit agriculture. They barter foodgrains with yak butter and cheese.

Governor inaugurates new badminton court
ITANAGAR, Oct 07: Governor of Arunachal Pradesh General (Retd) JJ Singh along with State First Lady Anupama Singh inaugurated a new badminton court at Raj Bhavan premises here today. A ceremonial match was held between the Governor and the First lady before declaring the court open for players.
Secretary to Governor Ankur Garg, Capital Complex Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goel, PWD Executive Engineers Gumnya Padu and Tana Nikham Tara, Raj Bhavan officers, other officials and their family members were present on the occasion.
Interacting with the players, officers and officials of the Raj Bhavan, the Governor expressed the hope that the sports facility will be beneficial not only to the players but also the officers and officials in building mental and physical endurance. There is no denying the fact that celebration of wildlife week assumes mass significance as such programs can make an everlasting impact. It was so heart touching to learn from teacher J.K Mungrey that the students of M’Pen Middle School have given up the use of catapults for shooting birds and other small creatures. Such transformations surface when there is mass awareness.

Govt to establish HC at Banderdewa, says Rebia
ITANAGAR, Oct 07: Parliamentary Secretary, Planning, Nabam Rebia today said that the state Govt has proposed to establish the Arunachal Pradesh High Court at Banderdewa where the green field airport was proposed earlier and the same would be officially announced by the chief minister on November 01 next at Doimukh. Rebia disclosed this while responding to a joint memorandum submitted by the Karsingsa, Banderdewa and Pichola/Tanihapa Development Committees on October 01 last.
Regarding the demand for creation of Banderdewa zilla parishad segment, Rebia further informed that the Papum Pare district administration has been advised to work out the modalities and take up the matter with the department concerned so that same could be materialized before the ensuing Panchayat Raj election. In the matter of transferring the administration from Capital Complex to Yupia, the parliamentary secretary said he has taken it up with the state Govt.

Take corrective step
Dear Editor,
Through the columns of your esteemed paper, I would like to address to all the MONPA Community of Arunachal Pradesh that Government of India doesn't recognize our tribe. There seems to be the nomenclature problem with our tribe due to the negligence of the bureaucrats, administrators and legislators. According to the Latest Census of India and also Ministry Of Tribal Affairs website, our tribe’s nomenclature is MOMBA. This indicates sheer negligence on the part of the State Government. The ST certificate mentioning “MONPA alias MOMBA” is very readily accepted by the Government of India whereas the certificate mentioning “MONPA” is not.
There are more educated youths than the jobs that State govt. creates. So Central Government job remains the last option for everyone. Presently there are more than 500 Monpa students outside Arunachal Pradesh trying for Central jobs and this particular nomenclature problem strips us of all the opportunities even if being a Bonafide Scheduled Tribe of India.
This is my humble request to all the concerned authorities to take corrective steps towards it at the earliest so that the nomenclature MONPA stays instead of MOMBA.

‘Eagle nest is in West Kameng’
